When the time comes to give your Black Belt test you are required to pay a testing fee to your teacher which could be as low as $ 100.00 or as high as $200.00 Canadian Dollars. If you want to have a certification from Korea  (Kukkiwon) you must pay an extra fee for this certificate. The Kukkiwon charge $70.00 American Dollars, for the 1st dan Black Belt certificate (Danjeung), $90.00 American Dollars, for the 2nd Dan, $120.00 for the 3rd Dan, and 150.00 for the 4th Dan Black Belt Certificate. The Kukkiwon does not regulate how much the instructor should charge the students, it is all up to him. Some instructor may charge you a lot more to increase the school revenue. The Kukkiwon certificate is an official requirement in all major competition sponsored by the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF). If you are not interested in running your own school or in participating in mayor competitions you do not need to have a Kukkiwon certification your school certificate should be enough to recognize you as a Black Belt.
The minimum age to apply for Kukkiwon Black Belt certificate is 15 year old. Under 15 years old Kukkiwon would allow you to apply for a Poom Belt Certificate. You will be able to use this Poom Belt certificate even if you over 16 years old. Kukkiwon will allow you to apply for a new certificate only when you test for your 2nd Dan.
The Kukkiwon do not issue official Belt with the certificate.
