Below you will find some general information about the eligibility criteria for the competitors.

Competitor Elegibility (All of the following criteria must be met):
1. Applicants must be Canadian citizens by May 05, 2006, and have written proof of citizenship; and,
2. Applicants must hold a Kukkiwon DAN certificate, and a copy must be attached to the application; and
3. Applicants must be at least 15 years of age; and,
4. Applicants must pay the annual athlete registration fee to "Taekwondo Canada"; and
5. Applicants must obtain the approval signature of the affiliated Provincial/Territorial Taekwondo Association President in the Province/Territory in which he/she resides.

NOTE: Poom holders must have their Kukkiwon Certificate converted to Dan through Taekwondo Canada's National Office prior to the registration deadline. See below for the "Kukkiwon in Progress" form for details.

Competition Format :
• Single Elimination and Repechage. Gold and Silver medallists from the 2005 Canadian
National Taekwondo Championship will be seeded in positions 1 and 2 respectively of the tree,
as long as they maintain the same weight category as in 2005.
• Gold and silver medallists will be determined as per single elimination format. Silver and Bronze
medallist will be determined using Repechage.
Match Duration:
Elimination and Repechage matches: men and women: 3 rounds, 2 minutes, 1 minute rest
between rounds.
All women finals (Gold/silver/bronze): 3 rounds, 2 minutes, 1 minute rest between rounds
All men finals (Gold/silver/bronze): 3 rounds, 3 minutes, 1 minute rest between rounds
Weigh In:
Two weigh-in attempts are allowed for each competitor, within the scheduled weigh-in time, to be
conducted the day prior to competition.
Equipment:
WTF approved headgear and chest protector will be provided to each athlete at the tournament site. The
athlete is responsible for: shin guards, groin protector, arm pads, mouth guard, etc. According to new WTF
rules, the use of mouth guards is mandatory.
Inspection:
All competitors must pass the inspection desk before their match. Inspection sheets are used to confirm
proper inspection.
Protest:
A written report of the protested match must be prepared by the coach and submitted to
the Arbitration Board within 10 minutes of the end of the match, with a protest fee of
$300.00 in cash or money order.
Patterns:
The patterns competition will be categorized by belt rank. Each category has its own required pattern. See
competitor application form for details.
Access Restrictions:
Access to the competition area is restricted to (i) ring officials, (ii) the competing athlete, and (iii) 1 coach
per competitor.
Doping Control:
Doping Control testing may be conducted, in accordance with Canadian Policy on Doping in Sport and
Canadian Doping Control Regulations (available online at www.cces.ca). 

Poom to Dan Conversion Requirements:
All athletes must be at least 15 years of age, and must have a Kukkiwon DAN certificate.
If you currently hold a POOM certificate, you must apply for a Dan conversion through Taekwondo Canada. If you are applying for a Poom-to-Dan Conversion, or have recently applied for your Kukkiwon DAN certificate, through Taekwondo Canada's National Office but have not received it yet, you must submit the "Kukkiwon in Progress" form with your application package. Organizing committee will communicate with WTF Canada for any “Kukkiwon in Progress”.

IMPORTANT CHANGES FOR THE 2005 SENIOR NATIONALS:

  1. Sudden Death will be in effect for matches tied after three rounds
  2. Both athletes will wear the same size hogu in each match
  3. Athlete's dobuks must only represent their Province or be blank. Club, School or Team Canada etc. must not be represented on dobuks
  4. Participants are not required to send in photos, each participant will be required to register at the event and have their picture taken for their accreditation
