Dear Shihan, Sensei, Sempai and
competitor, OSU! I would like to take this opportunity to personally invite you to the Fourth Annual U.S. Kyokushin Open to be held on Saturday May 13th, 2000 in Waterville, Maine. This year’s tournament has several changes so please make note. First change is the date. In the past the US Open has been held in September or October. The change to May is because of World Championships and All Japan Championships that are held by the various Kyokushin groups and the Shidokan Organization in November and December. Instead of going head to head with these tournaments I’ve decided that it was in the best interest of all concerned to change the date. Second change is the location. It was a tough decision to move the tournament from the area that my dojo is located. But with the increase number of fighters from outside of Maine and from overseas this was inevidable. Waterville Maine is approximately the same distance from Boston as South Paris, but it has bigger hotels and more to offer in town. Third is the prize money. You train hard, you pay your expense to get here and you pay your application fee. Its time for you to fight for something more than a trophy. This years tournament will pay $1,000.00 to the first place winners in the three men’s divisions and $500.00 to the first place winners in the two women’s divisions. There is no prize money for the juniors division, however we will still over a juniors division. As always, overseas fighters (outside of North America) who register before the deadline of May 1st, 2000 will receive two days hotel accommodation free. For competitors and guest who are flying into Maine make your reservations to arrive at one of the three following airports: Logan International (Boston), Manchester, New Hampshire or Portland Maine. SouthWest airlines and U.S. Air offer great deals to the Manchester New Hampshire Airport. As always, I will provide competitors and guest free transportation to and from the airports. If you will be staying overnight you will need to make your reservations as soon as possible. Lodging will be provided for by the Waterville Holiday Inn. When booking your rooms make sure that you refer to the United States Kyokushin Open to get the special rate of $49.00 per night. Their toll free number is: (800) 785-0111 or (207)873-0111 or fax your reservation to (207)872-2310. Make your reservations as soon as possible. I look forward to seeing you at the tournament and if there is anything that I can do to help, please do not hesitate to contact me at the numbers above. |
